Thomas Skala studied and worked in several well-known studios. Currently living and working Mr. Skala in Bohemia where he builds violins, violas and cellos in the studio he shares with Mr. Lupac, his father-in-law. Mr. Skala builds after the example of Stradivarius and Guarneri del Gesu. In 2000 he passed his exam in the studio of Tomáš Pilař in Hradec Králové and thus became a member of the Association of Czech Violin Makers. Tomáš Skála has participated in competitions in Mittenwald, Germany and in Utah, USA. His instruments are known for their tonal quality and excellent craftsmanship. Rental price: 50 euros per month The violin This violin from Mr. Skala was built in 2003. The violin has a characteristic flame in the back due to the way it is sawn (so-called 'slab-cut' wood). The transparent orange-gold oil lacquer brings out the deep flame beautifully. The top is fine and evenly grained. The sound is intense, powerful and clear. This violin comes with a builder's certificate.
