Josef Patocka 1936, original bridge

Josef Patocka 1936, original bridge
Beautiful violin by Josef Patocka (1895-1943) from Jicin. Josef Patocka belongs to the North Bohemian school. He came from a musical family and although his father - Benjamin Patocka - was a well-known violin maker, he learned the skills from his uncle, the renowned Dutch violin maker Josef Vedral. In 1914 he studied with him in The Hague. Only much later did he work in Jicin with his father and took over the workshop after his death in 1931. A special and nice detail is that this violin, which has been rarely played and is very well preserved, not only has the original label, but also has the original bridge with the stamp of Josef Patocka (see photo). Josef Patocka may not have had the great talent and reputation of his father, who won several prizes, but with this beautiful instrument he shows that he also knew his craftsmanship. The deep flame in the one-piece maple back is beautiful and is beautifully expressed in the red-brown varnish on a gold background. The fine scroll, sharp purfling and accentuated edges, which accentuate the elegant shape of the model, show the good craftsmanship. The violin, equipped with new tuning pegs and strings, has a warm, brilliant, open sound that offers many possibilities for interpretation.
