The typical Hopf violin with its distinctive “squary” outline, a highly arched top and the light, transparent varnish on a saffron-colored ground is very characteristic. This copy is a good example. The violin was built in the 19th century in Klingenthal. Beautiful is the intriguing flaming in the one-piece maple back. Very fine spruce is used for the top. The historic character is further enhanced by the light patina in the tasteful varnish. The characterful sound is warm, singing and colorful (sound clip below).
