German violin after J.B. Schweitzer
German violin after J.B. Schweitzer
This German violin is built after the model of J.B. Schweitzer from Bohemia. A beautiful instrument that has all the qualities that old German studio violins are known for. The orange-brown oil lacquer on a gold background shows tasteful spots of craquelure and patina. Eye-catching is the one-piece back made of deeply flamed maple that is full of character. The inlays are sharp and wide, accentuating the elegant curves of the violin. The scroll, which has been carved with care and conviction, also shows the craftsmanship of this unknown builder. The violin, which is more than 100 years old, is in completely intact condition. The powerful sound is mature and clear, with good projection and rich overtones (sound clip below). A very attractive violin that we can recommend.
