Beautiful German violin from the studio of Wilhelm Herwig. Wilhelm Herwig was both a violin maker and a trader. He bought violins from local violin makers in Markneukirchen and sold them under his own name. This violin, a copy of Stradivarius, was built in the early 1900s and bears its original label. The one-piece back is made of very beautiful, deeply flamed maple that comes out beautifully in the transparent deep red-brown lacquer on a yellow background. The violin is professionally and carefully built, as can be seen from the fine scroll and sharp inlays. The sound of the violin is warm, dark and a little sweet (sound clip below).
