Violin by the Gebruder Mertz, 1889

Violin by the Gebruder Mertz, 1889

€1,500.00

Beautiful violin by the Gebruder Mertz from Klingenthal (Germany). The Gebruder Mertz were dealers in bowed instruments. They provided the better instruments with their own name and label. This violin with the original label of the Gebruder Mertz is dated 1889. The violin is built after the classic Stradivarius model. The wood is well chosen; finely grained spruce for the top and deep, balanced flamed maple for the back. The violin has been played a lot in the past 100 years. Small traces of use in the tasteful red-brown lacquer give the violin an authentic look. The convincing, powerful sound - warm and open - has a very direct, good response (sound clip below).
